""It cheers me up," said Edward Young of San Francisco. "I try to slow down my dementia.""
""This is a beautiful last hurrah for people's pianos. Instead of being tossed, they come here, get loved on very hard," said Ben Davis, founder of Illuminate."

""Putting a piano outdoors is very harsh," said Young."
Golden Gate Park's public pianos have been severely damaged, leaving only one playable instrument. Edward Young, an 80-year-old local, finds joy in playing these pianos, which help him manage his dementia. The nonprofit Illuminate has worked to restore and maintain these pianos as part of a community art initiative. However, vandalism and harsh weather conditions have led to the destruction of many pianos, significantly reducing their availability for public enjoyment.
