Recall for baby food sold at Target that could cause organ damage
Briefly

Target has recalled 25,600 containers of its Good & Gather Baby Pea, Zucchini, Kale & Thyme Vegetable Purée due to lead contamination concerns. The recall comes after the FDA reported elevated lead levels, which could lead to serious health issues in infants, including neurological damage. This recall has been classified as Class II, indicating a risk of temporary medical problems. The affected batches must be removed from shelves to prevent potential harm, particularly as young children are susceptible to lead toxicity.
Dr Sana Mujahid, Consumer Reports' manager of food safety research and testing, said: 'We know that lead is dangerous for children. Even low levels of exposure can cause irreversible damage to their development and learning abilities.'
The US Food and Drug Administration ( FDA) initially alerted shoppers in March about the elevated lead levels in the baby food, which prompted this Class II recall.
Elevated lead levels in baby food could pose serious health risks to infants, potentially leading to neurological damage and developmental delays.
Target confirmed the recall affects 25,600 containers of its Good & Gather Baby Pea, Zucchini, Kale & Thyme Vegetable Purée, the only flavor being recalled.
