The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), alongside Orlando Pride and Gotham FC, has condemned recent transphobic and racist abuses directed at striker Barbra Banda during a match. NWSL expressed their solidarity, stating such behavior is intolerable in their league. Banda, previously victim of discrimination related to gender verification, is recognized as a leading figure in soccer. The league plans to investigate the incident and enforce accountability measures, ensuring that all players are supported and respected within the sport; reinforcing the league's values and standards against fan harassment.
"We are united in our message: this behaviour is unacceptable and has no place in our league or in our stadiums," a spokesperson for NWSL said.
Barbra is an outstanding role model and an influential advocate for soccer both in Africa and here in the United States."
