Democrats introduce bill to expand gender-affirming care access to mark Trans Day of Visibility
Briefly

U.S. Rep. Becca Balint is responding to increasing anti-trans legislation by introducing the Transgender Health Care Access Act, aimed at expanding access to gender-affirming care. Marking Trans Day of Visibility, she highlights the perilous climate for transgender Americans, emphasizing that 27 states have imposed restrictions on trans youth care, alongside numerous executive orders from the Trump administration targeting the community. Balint’s legislation encompasses funding for provider training, enhancing medical curricula, improving access in rural areas, and banning conversion therapy, representing a proactive approach to support trans rights and health care.
This has been a really horrible time for the trans community," Balint told The Advocate in an interview Monday morning. "You've got a president who has signed six executive orders specifically targeting trans Americans.
Republicans are obsessed with attacking trans people. It's dangerous. Over and over again, they use messages designed to get Americans to fear one another and to divide us.
The Transgender Health Care Access Act is designed to expand access to lifesaving, evidence-based gender-affirming care across the country.
The legislation addresses a national crisis unfolding in real-time: as of today, 27 states have enacted laws restricting gender-affirming care for trans youth.
