Bay Area Iranian community anchor shutters amid war and uncertainty
Briefly

The recent documentary screening in Richmond, featuring "The Dawn is Too Far: Stories of Iranian-American Life," underscored the pervasive anxieties among Iranian Americans following U.S. military action against Iran. Producer Persis Karim expressed frustration at the media's fleeting interest in the community, now heightened during conflict. Concurrently, the event marked a sorrowful farewell to the Center for Iranian Diaspora Studies, recently announced to close due to a donor's decision to reallocate funding for STEM scholarships. Efforts to relocate the center were unsuccessful, leaving the community without this important space.

The difficult decision to repurpose my endowment was not, by any means, intended to diminish the impact of the Center.
