$5 Off Tix: The Pulitzer-Winning Play "Fat Ham" at SF Playhouse (Mar. 20-Apr. 19)
Briefly

James Ijames's Fat Ham reinvents Shakespeare's Hamlet through the experiences of Juicy, a queer Southern college student confronted by the ghost of his murdered father. Differing from Hamlet's narrative, Juicy is a self-aware Black man hoping to escape cycles of trauma and achieve personal liberation. The play, which exposes themes of identity, love, loss, and healing, invites audiences to reflect on complex familial dynamics. It has garnered critical acclaim, earning the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and will be shown at the San Francisco Playhouse from March 20 to April 19, 2025.
"James Ijames's outstanding transformation of Shakespeare's tragedy into a play about Black masculinity and queerness both echoes Hamlet and finds a language beyond it."
"From an uproarious family barbecue emerges a compelling examination of love and loss, pain and joy."
