Keir Starmer stated that Russia's increased aggression in Ukraine now disrupts global food supplies, particularly affecting shipments to Gaza and vulnerable countries across Africa and Asia.
Starmer emphasized that Putin's indiscriminate strikes on Ukrainian ports show a willingness to gamble with global food security. "He is harming millions of vulnerable people to gain the upper hand in his barbaric war," he asserted.
British military intelligence reports that between October 5 and 14, four merchant vessels were struck, impacting shipments including vegetable oil intended for the World Food Programme in Palestine.
During a meeting with British-Palestinian families, there were calls for evacuation and resettlement schemes, as well as actions against Israel's restrictions on aid flowing into Gaza.
