A 2023 Monster poll found that 37% of respondents had more than one full-time job, with many overemployed workers keeping it a secret due to the risks and exhaustion involved.
Overemployed workers use terms like OE and J1, J2 to categorize their multiple full-time positions, striving to maintain performance under the radar to reap financial benefits.
"If your employer doesn't notice a drop in productivity and you're not getting fired for underperformance, I don't really see what the problem is from a corporate standpoint," says entrepreneur Frank Niu.
Overemployment is largely driven by the need for increased income to cope with living costs in an unstable economy, leading workers to seek additional full-time roles for financial stability.
