The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has announced a new return-to-office policy that will mandate eligible employees to work full-time at their worksites. This change impacts approximately one-fifth of the agency's 479,000 employees and follows a presidential mandate for in-person work. Remote work arrangements will be terminated for political appointees and certain senior employees, with gradual enforcement through February and April 2023. Exceptions may apply for disabilities and military spouses. Acting VA Secretary Todd Hunter emphasized the necessity of equal treatment for employees and the benefits of in-person collaboration and performance.
"This is a commonsense step toward treating all VA employees equally," Acting VA Secretary Todd Hunter said. "Most VA clinical staff don't have the luxury of working remotely, and we believe the performance, collaboration and productivity will improve with in-person work."
