I fell into freelancing by accident as a college student at Duke University in 2019, where I helped launch their creator economy programs.
The culture at Duke was focused on becoming a lawyer, doctor, or consultant, and I internalized those expectations, thinking I would work in a corporate job.
When my job offer from LinkedIn was rescinded, I felt like I had the rug pulled out from under me, which led me to freelance.
I enjoyed the variety of freelance work but found the financial uncertainty stressful during the months after graduation.
