A couple built an online business together as a side project and initially found it exciting, fun, and surreal. As the business grew, they became proud and eventually left their other jobs to work full-time. With no children or pets, the business became central to their lives, but over time it stopped feeling enjoyable. Income and stability became tied to the business, creating constant worry and leaving little mental escape. Because they live and work together, work problems spill into conversations and increase irritability even about unrelated topics. They still love each other and value what they built, but feel romance and playfulness have declined due to ongoing stress.
"If there's a problem, it follows us into almost every conversation we have, and I've even noticed we're shorter with each other about things that have nothing to do with work. Don't get me wrong, I still love my husband and love what we've created. I just feel like we've lost a sense of romance and playfulness in our relationship because we're always stressed about work."
