Buying the Perfect Gift
Briefly

Every day, people are disappointed with the gifts they receive or with the reaction of the person they gave a gift to. Sometimes, they are mildly disappointed, and other times, they are more devastated. These feelings can vary from sadness and disappointment to more intense anger, reflecting the deep emotional investment we place in gift-giving as a form of love and understanding.
Despite all of this pain and disappointment, we persist, unfailingly pursuing the perfect gift that is exactly what I was hoping for but never even hinted at. As we navigate our relationships, we often resort to giving hints and cues in hopes that our partners or loved ones will intuitively understand our needs without needing explicit communication, which can lead to further disappointment.
The desire to be perfectly loved without having to verbalize our needs is an infantile desire. This yearning connects back to the time in the womb when we experienced unconditional care and understanding without needing to articulate our feelings or desires, highlighting our fundamental human longing for connection and understanding without effort.
