Waymo: 'no plans' to use in-car camera data for targeted ads
Briefly

Waymo, the self-driving car company, confirmed that it has no intentions of utilizing data from in-cabin cameras in its robotaxis for the purpose of training AI for targeted advertising. Responding to concerns raised regarding their privacy policy, spokesperson Julia Ilina emphasized that the machine learning systems are not built to recognize individuals. Furthermore, riders will soon have an option to opt-out of data collection that could potentially be used for AI training, ensuring passenger privacy remains a priority as the technology develops.
"Waymo's machine learning systems are not designed to use this data to identify individual people, and there are no plans to use this data for targeted ads," Ilina said.
"The feature, which is still under development, will not introduce any changes to Waymo's Privacy Policy, but rather will offer riders an opportunity to opt-out of data collection for ML training purposes," she continued.
