Change Healthcare reported that a huge cyberattack a year ago affected approximately 190 million individuals. UnitedHealth Group, its parent company, confirmed that most affected individuals were notified, with further disclosures pending to the Department of Health and Human Services. Despite the scale of the attack, Change Healthcare stated it has no evidence of misuse of personal information or leaks of electronic medical records during its investigation, aiming to reassure those impacted about the integrity of their data.
Change Healthcare now estimates that 190 million people were impacted in the massive cyberattack that took down its services nearly a year ago.
The healthcare giant said that the number will be confirmed and filed with the Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (OCR) "at a later date."
Change Healthcare is not aware of any misuse of individuals' information as a result of this incident and has not seen electronic medical record databases appear in the data during the analysis.
