Venezuela election: Edmundo Gonzalez says Supreme Court cannot perform the functions of the National Electoral Council

Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia emphatically stated that the Supreme Court cannot take over roles that belong solely to the National Electoral Council, highlighting the importance of electoral integrity.

He declared, "The people's decision cannot be ignored by any person, nor by any organ of public power, especially by those who seek power for themselves."

Urrutia insisted that the Supreme Court’s actions violate the constitutional separation of powers, stating, "The Electoral Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice is not authorized under any circumstances to exercise such functions."

He criticized the CNE's lack of transparency, saying, "After declaring Maduro the winner, the CNE closed its doors without providing any detailed voting records to the candidates, undermining the election's integrity."
