The Workplace Relations Commission in Ireland ruled that Twitter's dismissal of Gary Rooney was unfair, leading to a compensation award of €550,000, the highest ever for such a case in the country.
During the ultimatum communicated by Musk, he required employees to agree to his 'hardcore' vision for the new Twitter or face termination, showcasing a controversial management approach that has raised concerns.
Rooney's complaint highlighted that he had been given a very short deadline and vague conditions to agree upon, ultimately leading to his entire dismissal being labeled as a resignation, which he contested.
The hearing revealed that of the 270 employees receiving the ultimatum, only 235 agreed to the new terms, raising questions about the fairness and understanding of the collective agreement presented to staff.
