Commander Stephen Clayman emphasized that 'criminals are buying hundreds of blades in bulk from legitimate sellers and reselling them via social media,' indicating a serious issue.
During the Police Superintendents' Association annual conference, Clayman insisted that major social media platforms must address the issue of weapons being sold and changing hands.
He argued, 'some [social media companies] feel there's no problem here, and I would suggest they need to look again at all they're being wilfully blind to it,' highlighting negligence.
The call to action included a demand for online retailers to alert police when someone purchases a significant quantity of weapons, showcasing the urgency of the situation.
