Hugh Hume, the chief executive of the police ombudsman's office, criticized the 74 officers who accessed bodycam footage for entertainment, saying they showed little regard for the arrested man's privacy.
The police ombudsman’s investigation revealed that the bodycam footage was viewed 248 times by 82 officers, highlighting a serious breach of protocol and a casual attitude towards sensitive footage.
Following the findings, PSNI stated it would implement safeguards and confirmed that only a few officers had legitimate reasons for accessing the footage.
Hugh Hume emphasized the need for officers to refresh their understanding of body-worn video guidelines, indicating a significant lapse in adherence to lawful purposes.
