National Public Data says only 1.3M affected by breach
Briefly

Florida-based National Public Data (NPD) confirmed in a filing that the breach affected just 1.3 million people, despite earlier estimates suggesting much higher numbers.
The digital break-in took place in December 2023, with data leaks starting as early as April, believed to be perpetrated by a criminal using the alias USDoD.
Troy Hunt of HaveIBeenPwned noted a discrepancy with the NPD's numbers, pointing out that the database contained 134 million unique email addresses, highlighting potential underreporting.
The history of data breach notifications shows that organizations often revise their numbers upward, as seen with FBCS, which raised its count from 2 million to 3.2 million.
