Joanna Kathlyn Kinman has pled guilty in a Melbourne court for her role in possessing human toes with the intent to sell them online. This bizarre case arose when two dogs at a Victorian animal shelter vomited the remains after their owner's death. Kinman, employed as a ranger, retrieved the toes and preserved them in formaldehyde, planning to sell them for up to $400. Police discovered her involvement after a tip-off, leading to the investigation of her activities on Bone Buddies Australia, a group for trading odd specimens.
Kinman stated during her police interview that she was curious about the human toes, saying, 'I know someone who collects weird things... I thought it could be interesting.'
The police prosecutor noted that Kinman had actively participated in the Bone Buddies Australia Facebook group, revealing, 'She had contributed regularly, trading specimens, including a stillborn kitten.'
