In an exclusive interview, Angel Carter Conrad shares her perspective on survival amidst family tragedy in the documentary 'The Carters.' Reflecting on her upbringing as the youngest of five siblings, she believes her neglect saved her from the drug-related deaths that plagued her family. Angel highlights how her experience with ‘normal’ family interactions starkly contrasts with her siblings' lives, particularly Aaron, who struggled with mental health issues. She attributes the family's pain to a legacy of dysfunction and substance abuse, ultimately pointing to the need for deeper family connections.
"I really think that from a young age, because I was neglected, it ultimately saved me," Angel, 37, tells Page Six in an exclusive interview about her new Paramount+ documentary, 'The Carters,' directed by Soleil Moon Frye.
"They were all raised by mom Jane Carter and dad Bob Carter, who died in May 2017 at age 65. Angel believes the patriarch's sudden death from a heart attack was also related to drugs.
"The Carter kids are the products of generations of dysfunction, substance abuse, mental illness, physical and emotional abuse, infidelity and greed," Angel reveals, highlighting the family's troubled history.
"I spent a lot of time in social settings with my friends and their families, sitting around a dinner table, really talking about our day," she shares, contrasting her upbringing with her siblings' experiences.
