In 2024, UNICEF reported that 242 million students globally faced educational disruptions from various climate-related events like heat waves and storms, predominantly in low-income countries. Around a billion children live in areas highly susceptible to climate shocks, complicating their education. Even if schools remain intact, extreme heat makes it hard for students to focus. Disruptions can lead to long-term academic setbacks, as children lack coping mechanisms for such changes in their routine.
