Since January, victims near Chapel Market and Liverpool Road have been approached by suspects asking if they knew a doctor, leading to serious blackmail incidents.
Victims were threatened that if they refused to comply with demands for money, their family members would 'mysteriously' get hurt in the coming days.
Detective Constable Paulo Roberts stated, 'These incidents left the victims incredibly shaken and we know it has caused huge concern within the Chinese community.'
