Downtown Commission wants all-new plan to address needs of city core - Austin Monitor

The Downtown Commission has unanimously recommended that the city conduct a comprehensive rewrite of the Downtown Austin Plan to address the changing needs of a growing population and urban infrastructure challenges. The current plan, adopted in 2011, is no longer sufficient as it lacks strategic implementation. There is a strong emphasis on economic modeling for land use to ensure sustainability, along with the need for a dedicated entity to oversee the implementation process effectively. This decision is also influenced by ongoing redevelopment efforts and major projects in the area.

The Downtown Commission has recommended the city... pursue a complete rewrite of the Downtown Austin Plan... to ensure that new development is sustainable and provides benefits for the city.

Keeping in mind that municipal plans frequently exist solely as aspirations and are not implemented in any effective manner...the DAP should specifically identify a funding mechanism for implementation.
