Why are sea levels rising? DW 09/25/2024
Briefly

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres highlighted the critical situation during his visit to Tonga, emphasizing that low-lying islands face significant threats from rising sea levels. The issue is acute, with communities already experiencing destructive flooding and storms that jeopardize lives and essential infrastructure.
Global sea levels have risen faster since the 20th century than at any point in the last 3,000 years and are expected to rise significantly depending on carbon emissions. Holding global warming to 1.5C might limit sea level rise to 38cm by 2100, while a projected 2.7C rise could increase it to 56cm.
