A team of scientists used an autonomous underwater vehicle to explore beneath Antarctica's Dotson ice shelf, revealing detailed maps and new ice-shelf formations never seen before.
By collecting ocean data and scanning the bottom of the ice shelf using sonar, researchers gained unprecedented insights into how the Dotson shelf is changing and responding to climate change.
"It's a bit like seeing the back of the moon," said Anna Wåhlin, lead study author, highlighting the significance of the new perspective gained from exploring beneath the ice shelves.
