"Wetlands are one of the best natural systems to sequester CO2," says Paytan, emphasizing the importance of salt marshes in carbon capture and restoration efforts.
"The vegetation that falls into standing water that has no oxygen never decomposes, so that CO2 never goes back to the atmosphere," highlights Khan.
