Nasa solar probe to make its closest ever pass of sun on Christmas Eve
Briefly

Launched in August 2018, the Parker Solar Probe is on a seven-year mission to deepen scientific understanding of the sun and forecast space weather events.
This closest approach, known as perihelion, will occur at a record-setting 3.8 million miles from the sun's surface, marking an unprecedented data collection opportunity.
No human-made object has ever passed this close to a star, making Parker's mission a historic endeavor to return data from uncharted territory.
Parker will be moving at about 430,000 mph, fast enough to fly from Washington DC to Tokyo in under a minute, showcasing its technological prowess.
