How humans evolved to be 'energetically unique' - Harvard Gazette
Briefly

Humans are off-the-charts different from any creature that we know of so far in terms of how we use energy, said study co-author Daniel Lieberman.
Using a new comparison method, researchers found humans have evolved to escape a tradeoff between resting and active metabolic rates, unlike most mammals including other primates.
The previous consensus that human and non-human primates' metabolic rates are either the same or lower than expected for their body size has been challenged by this new study.
Chimpanzees spend much of their day eating due to high resting metabolisms, which highlights the distinct tradeoff between energy expenditure in animals.
