Antioch is set to boost its water supply with a nearly $100-million brackish desalination plant, expected to start operations in early 2025, as officials work on final adjustments before launch.
The costly but essential desalination process involves removing salts and minerals from water, allowing struggles over water supply to be alleviated, particularly in dry seasons.
Funding for the project came from diverse sources including a $10-million grant and a $61-million low-interest loan, illustrating the complexity and commitment behind municipal water projects.
The project comes as a timely response to Antioch’s fluctuating water demands, providing a sustainable option to meet its summer highs of up to 23 million gallons.
