NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams were supposed to go to the ISS for a ten-day mission but have been stuck there since June, awaiting Starliner's readiness.
As Starliner will return to Earth in September without astronauts, the mission is now a test flight aimed at gathering crucial data to inform future crewed flights.
Boeing's Starliner has encountered numerous setbacks over a decade, including software defects that caused its first test flight to end without docking at the ISS.
With the ISS set to operate for only another 5-6 years, Boeing's future role in NASA's crew transport program remains uncertain as testing continues.
