Lina Maria Villegas's journey to the M.A. in Climate and Society program began with her experience as a military and contract linguist, where she developed a curiosity about the world. This interest led her to study geographic sciences at the University of Maryland and further into environmental policy and climate science. Currently engaged in research with NASA focused on urban land surface temperatures in NYC, she also participates in student government and leadership initiatives, reflecting her commitment to understanding and addressing climate issues through personal and collective action.
I remember talks in the auditorium about electricity and small things to be conscious of, like leaving the light on... Ever since then, I've been more and more aware of different ways our actions have an impact on the world.
