LGBTQ+ and Disability Rights Organizations Are Resisting Trump's Nonprofit Crackdown - Non Profit News | Nonprofit Quarterly
Briefly

Since Trump's inauguration, efforts to undermine marginalized communities and their supporting nonprofits have intensified. A suspension of federal funding for various aid initiatives under an anti-DEI executive order threatens numerous organizations, prompting legal challenges. Despite a federal judge blocking the order, the ongoing funding suspension, upheld by an appeals court, severely affects charities' operations, staffing, and the ability to serve communities. Nonprofits warn of significant consequences if this funding is permanently lost, stating it will not only weaken local services but also endanger lives both domestically and globally.
"This order could decimate thousands of organizations and leave neighbors without the services they need," Diane Yentel stated, highlighting the far-reaching impact of the funding suspension.
"Removing this vital funding or dismantling these organizations will not just diminish the United States here at home and around the world, it will cost lives," said the National Council on Nonprofits.
The disruption has already destabilized nonprofit operations nationwide, forcing organizations to reconsider their future and adapt to adverse changes.
A federal appeals court ruled that some federal funding remains suspended despite the policy reversal, leaving organizations unable to meet growing community needs.
