Corey Seager To Visit Back Specialist
"Seager is also struggling to make contact like never before. He has a career-high 27.5% strikeout rate. It's the first time he's been above 20% since 2017 with the Dodgers. Seager's 16.2% swinging-strike rate is easily a career worst. His 68.0% contact rate is the 12th-lowest mark among qualified hitters."
Corey Seager is being sent to a back specialist by the Rangers, following a back issue that caused him to miss all three games of a weekend series against the Astros. The team is awaiting MRI results. Seager has not played since Wednesday and had appeared in 42 of the team’s first 43 games before the injury. His offense is in a severe downturn, with a 0-for-27 slump and a slash line of .179/.286/.353 over 182 plate appearances. His 80 wRC+ is the lowest mark of his big-league career. Contact and swing metrics have also declined, including a career-high 27.5% strikeout rate and a career-worst 16.2% swinging-strike rate. Seager previously produced at a high level with a wRC+ of 138 or better in each of the past three seasons, but injuries have repeatedly interrupted his availability.
