Longtime exec Rooney, part of 6 SB winners, dies
Briefly

Tim Rooney, an NFL executive and nephew of Steelers founder Art Rooney Sr., passed away at 84 following a recent cancer diagnosis. He began his career with the Steelers in 1972 as a scout, later becoming their director of pro scouting. Rooney played a pivotal role in drafting Hall of Fame linebacker Jack Lambert. After leaving the Steelers in 1979, he worked with the Detroit Lions and served as the director of pro personnel for the New York Giants until 1999. He contributed to six Super Bowl-winning teams during his career.
Tim Rooney was credited with drafting Hall of Fame linebacker Jack Lambert after escorting then-coach Chuck Noll to watch Lambert at Kent State.
All told, Rooney was part of six Super Bowl-winning teams.
Hall of Fame head coach Bill Parcells appreciated Rooney's honesty, noting, 'When you're a head coach, you need someone to tell you the truth. Tim was our pro personnel guy, and that was his job.'
Rooney’s relationship with Parcells was characterized by daily interactions and discussions about the roster, enhancing their connection.
