Saquon Barkley's remarkable 14-yard leap over a defender during a game has garnered attention as a potential play of the year. Former Giants GM Dave Gettleman, who drafted Barkley second overall in 2018, noted his surprise at the move, underscoring Barkley’s exceptional talent. Despite the challenges Barkley faced during his six seasons with the Giants, including injuries and poor team performance, Gettleman's original high expectations reflect his belief in Barkley’s potential as a Hall of Famer. This season, Barkley is showcasing his skills and returning to prominence in the NFL.
Gettleman's rhetoric could have been characterized as overheated hyperbole during too much of Barkley's six years with the Giants, as injuries, horrid offensive line play, lousy quarterback play and three head coach regimes all conspired against him.
I will say this, I certainly didn't expect him to turn around and leap over a guy,'' Gettleman told The Post on Wednesday.
