Emer Mezzetti, a 56-year-old woman from Atkinson, was reported missing after falling through the ice at Big Island Pond, leading to a search that unfortunately ended in tragedy.
State Police indicated that first responders from multiple communities made attempts to rescue Mezzetti but were unable to save her before recovery operations commenced the following morning.
The recovery of Mezzetti's body was undertaken by the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department's Dive Team after search efforts were suspended overnight due to darkness.
Authorities urged the public to use caution around icy areas, emphasizing the seriousness of safety measures for those walking on ice in the area.
