More than two decades after a quadriplegic woman was raped in her apartment, a man has been arrested and charged in connection to the 2000 assault, police said.
Despite exhaustive efforts and follow-up on multiple leads, the case went cold until decades later when detectives finally got a DNA match to Michael Lamonte Evans.
Police stated, 'We are deeply saddened that the victim in this case passed away several years ago.' This highlights the tragic reality of delayed justice.
Michael Lamonte Evans, now 50, is currently in jail custody on unrelated charges and will be extradited to Contra Costa County to stand trial.
