Nassau County Police reported the first arrest under a new local face mask law; Wesslin Omar Ramirez Castillo was found wearing a ski mask and carrying a weapon.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman stated the law provided police with an additional tool to stop suspects, citing the legislation as a successful measure in preventing crime.
Criminal justice professor Keith Ross remarked that while the new law enhanced police authority, officers had sufficient reasons to stop Ramirez Castillo even without it.
