A drowning incident involving a 20-month-old girl occurred at Ana's Butterfly Garden Family Group in the Bronx. Police found the child unconscious and she was later pronounced dead at a medical center. The day care operator reported that while cooking, the toddler exited through a back screen door, climbed into an above-ground pool, and drowned. Although the incident is being investigated, it appears accidental. The facility had no previous violations, and a GoFundMe for the family has raised over $5,100.
The girl was found unconscious and unresponsive and was pronounced dead at Montefiore-Einstein Medical Center.
The 47-year-old day care operator reported that the child got out of the house through the back screen door and accessed the above-ground pool.
State records indicate the facility was inspected four times over the last year and cited with no violations, although authorities continue to investigate the incident.
The Wilson family had raised more than $5,100 through GoFundMe, describing River as a beautiful, joyful baby with a radiant smile.
