New York City's congestion pricing program has shown significant success six months in, with a reported 11 percent decrease in cars entering the zone, equivalent to 10 million fewer vehicle entries compared to the previous year. Traffic delays reduced by 25% within the zone and 9% across the region. Crash incidents fell by 14%, while pedestrian fatalities reached historic lows. Contrary to initial fears of negative business impact, pedestrian activity increased by 8.4% inside the pricing zone in May, compared to just 2.7% outside the zone.
Traffic delays are down in the zone by 25% and across the metropolitan region by 9%, according to data from the Regional Plan Association and Waze cited in the governor's office report.
Despite fears that the toll would hurt businesses, pedestrian activity inside the zone was up 8.4% in May, compared with the same period last year, while outside the zone only saw an increase of 2.7%.
