Jhon Moises Chacaguasay-Ilbis, a 21-year-old illegal immigrant from Ecuador, strangled his childhood acquaintance Joselyn Jhoana Toaquiza on her birthday in a Syracuse Airbnb. Chacaguasay-Ilbis was captured on surveillance video carrying Toaquiza's body past a police cruiser before burying her in Lincoln Park. He turned himself in to authorities days later and pled guilty to murder and concealing a corpse. Toaquiza, who had crossed the US border seeking asylum, was due for a court hearing when she was killed. Chacaguasay-Ilbis is set to be sentenced to 22 years to life in February.
