Galo Herrera, a Mexican national, was extradited back to Westchester County after being a fugitive for nearly two decades. He faces multiple charges, including predatory sexual assault against a child, stemming from incidents where he allegedly raped a girl under the age of 13 from December 2006 to January 2007. After being indicted in 2008, he fled to Mexico, evading prosecution until recently. District Attorney Susan Cacace praised the cooperation between law enforcement agencies in both countries, emphasizing the importance of justice regardless of time elapsed.
Justice has no expiration date,” District Attorney Susan Cacace emphasized, highlighting the enduring nature of accountability for heinous acts involving children, even decades later.
The defendant’s horrendous conduct, as alleged in the indictment, is no less shocking nearly two decades later. I am grateful to our law enforcement partners in Mexico and the U.S. who brought Mr. Herrera to answer for these charges.
