Jamar Banks, a 52-year-old man with a history of over 50 arrests, is accused of stabbing a 32-year-old man aboard a subway train on New Year’s Day. The incident began when the victim allegedly stole Banks' suitcase and blanket while he was sleeping. When Banks discovered his belongings missing, he confronted the victim, leading to a violent altercation where he stabbed the victim in the back with a knife. The victim was severely injured, suffering a ruptured lung and internal bleeding, and authorities later apprehended Banks with the knife.
According to the indictment, Banks woke up as the train pulled into the 14th Street station and realized his belongings were missing.
Prosecutors said Banks allegedly pulled out a knife, ripped off the sheet and started screaming.
EMS rushed him to Bellevue Hospital where he underwent treatment for a ruptured lung and internal bleeding.
The NYPD Warrant Squad caught up to him on Jan. 5 at the 219th Street train station in the Bronx and in possession of the knife.
