A 42-year-old homeless man, Trevon Murphy, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for fatally stabbing one homeless man and attempting to murder two others in Manhattan during the summer of 2022.
Manhattan DA Alvin L. Bragg emphasized the attacks on vulnerable homeless individuals, stating that those facing homelessness shouldn't have to fear for their safety.
Murphy, with a history of arrests and mental illness, was arrested in July 2022 for the stabbings that targeted men sleeping outside during a single week.
Murphy's lawyer, Kevin Canfield, did not initially respond to requests for comment following the sentencing.
