Briefly

Joel Paley, renowned for his work as a dancer, playwright, and director, passed away on January 11 at the age of 69 due to a medical emergency while driving. He was best known for writing the book and lyrics for the acclaimed Off-Broadway musical 'Ruthless!', about an overly ambitious girl. His death came shortly after that of his partner, Marvin Laird, who composed the show's music. Paley's comedic talent was honed during his time with Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, where he made a significant impact despite not being the best dancer.
He wasn't a very good dancer, but none of us were in those days. Even the prima ballerinas were lacking. He made his comedy chops with us.
When the show was revived Off Broadway in 2015, Mr. Paley surprised Mr. Laird during his remarks at an opening night party by saying, 'Now that our child is alive and well and kicking, will you marry me?'
Joel Paley's death follows nearly six weeks after that of Marvin Laird, who wrote the music to Ruthless! and was his partner in marriage.
According to the Connecticut State Police, he had a medical emergency while driving... medics administered lifesaving measures, but he died in a hospital.
