I had to fight for 40 years': Woman raped by father sees police finally apologise
Briefly

When she first reported her father to the police for raping her in 1984 an officer told her if the case went to court, you will be made out to be the biggest liar and slag going.
Ms Higgins said their failure to investigate meant she had to continually fight to ensure her rapist faced criminal justice. The police apology in 2019 was the first time they admitted their ineffective handling of the case.
It took over 30 years for the police to take her claims seriously despite reporting her father's abuse on five separate occasions from 1984 to 2015. The constant battle took a toll on her mental and physical health.
Chief Constable of West Yorkshire Police admitted the investigating officer hadn't finished his training, communication should have been more frequent and clearer in handling the case.
