The incidents occurred just days apart, raising alarms over a potential spike in hate crimes. The involvement of notable figures such as Elon Musk and former president Trump in the timing of these actions has not gone unnoticed, prompting a citywide investigation by hate crime detectives.
According to police sources, the first hateful act occurred at around 3:22 p.m. on Jan. 21 inside of Manhattan's Washington Square Park.
The NYPD's Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating the graffiti, a day after Donald Trump was inaugurated for the second time.
