After responding to a 911 call regarding a man making suicidal statements and armed with a firearm, the Fitchburg police officer attempted to deescalate the situation before the man drew his weapon.
Upon encountering the suspect, the officer took immediate actions towards deescalation, exiting his patrol vehicle, but the situation rapidly escalated when the man pointed a gun at him.
Following the incident, the officer provided medical assistance to the wounded individual, who was stabilized at the scene before being transported to the hospital.
