Island Oyster, a popular James Beard-nominated raw bar, faces uncertainty about its future on Governors Island as a new vendor search is underway for a substantial social hub and eatery. The Trust for Governors Island seeks diverse proposals to cater to various visitors. Island Oyster, which has been a staple since 2017, must decide by May 2 whether to submit a new proposal. The planned venue can accommodate 600 diners and aims to offer a range of seasonal food and beverage options by 2026.
"With this opportunity, we are hoping to attract all kinds of creative, diverse proposals that support the needs of our daily visitors alongside foodies, cocktail enthusiasts and gourmet adventurers alike," Clare Newman, president & CEO of the Trust for Governors Island, said in a statement.
